The zoning plan represents the regulatory framework set by the building authorities for developing a specific area. The zoning plan is part of a larger planning hierarchy — in our case, the municipal sub-plan and the area zoning for Hammerfest city center (the City Center Plan).

It was clear that the young people wanted a shopping mall, more stores, and fast food.

Good health is no longer just a private matter, but something that politicians, authorities, and developers are expected to help facilitate.

Havnekvartalet is taking the initiative to develop a new attraction in Hammerfest through a preliminary project, inviting both existing actors/attractions and new initiatives to join a shared effort in strengthening our role as a Host City. There is explosive growth in the tourism industry — and the greatest interest is directed toward Northern Norway, according to recent figures.

Hammerfest once had one of the most polluted harbors in Norway. In the past, the easiest solution to waste management was simply dumping it into the sea. In the autumn of 1945, Hammerfest was burned to the ground as part of Nazi Germany’s Scorched Earth tactic. Since then, the harbor area has been filled with toxic metals, environmental hazards, garbage, sewage — and even a large naval mine, which was discovered during the Clean Harbor Project.

We consider it a healthy sign that the residents of the city show interest and engagement in the development of the harbor and its infrastructure. We are deeply committed to ensuring that the development of Havnekvartalet includes qualities that give the city a positive boost — something the local community can be proud of. That’s why we welcome a variety of opinions and input on what can contribute to this goal — or potentially hinder it.
